Can you guess how many games are represented in this little ACEO?

Okay ~ Here is the ACEO "Games" as it was posted previously ~

And ~ tada! Here is the finished ACEO!

I think this is fun! Can you find all the games that are represented in this little ACEO? I packed a lot of them in that 2.5 x 3.5 inch little piece of artwork! Some are easier to figure out than other. Let me know what games you find!

Have fun!

Kathy

Here's a fun horse drawing!

Okay - I said that over the summer I wanted to do more sketching and drawing! Here is a new one from me =) This is almost finished - just needs a few 'final touches'.

Those final touches are really important to any artwork. When I post the finished drawing, you will see what I mean!

This is done on watercolor paper with watersoluable graphite pencil. I really like the way these pencils work on the watercolor paper. I have used them on heavy drawing paper before, but the sizing on the watercolor paper made a lot of difference in the way that the brush could move the pigment.

So what do you think of my little unfinished drawing? Do you like the color? There are more drawings to come =)

Until next time ~ God bless,
Kathy

This summer I am going to....

....do more drawing and sketching!

Watersoluable graphite is really fun to work with and I have several colors of these pencils that I can use. I am starting a series that will focus on the watersoluable graphite pencils by themselves as well as combined with watercolor pencils. I really liked working with the both the watercolor pencils and the watersoluable graphite, but I have never used them together. I thought that a tiny splash of color could be fun mixed in with the graphite.

With summer around the corner and vacation a possibility, having a nice portable media to focus on will be great. It's not a far departure from my watercolors, but I won't need to haul around nearly as much 'stuff' - just some pencils and paper and a brush or two. I am not too much of a plein aire painter, but occasionally I like to stroll out in the field and sketch. This summer, I am going to take advantage of our lovely weather and sketch.

So, what are you going to do this summer??? Any great artistic plans? Let me know!

God bless,
Kathy

And what do my wondering eyes behold...?

I was watering my tree and not paying attention to anything except the end of the hose. I noticed I had two new little cottonwood trees that I could transplant. *smile* My eyes lazily traced a path up their delicate trunks to about eye level. A brown blotch caught my eye and I slowly turned to look at the larger tree. (The trunk was about two to three feet away from me *rolls eyes*) And...

What? is? that?

No. absolutely. can't. be.

Oh. yes. it. can. BEES!

Bees. Yep, an entire hive on the move. And they picked my tree to stop and rest. Backing slowly away from the tree, I did the most logical thing. I went and got my camera!

The day before I had seen the hive on the move. I was outside and I heard what sounded like a flock of birds... but not quite right and no birds in sight. A truck on the dirt road? no... not quite the right sound... A...? *gasp* About 5 feet or so above my head was a swarm of bees. They were close enough that a few stragglers came to check out my red shirt. *shivers*

Every year about this time we have a hive of bees come through this area. They land for a few hours to a few days and then move on to a more secure destination. This was the first time that I had seen them land in one of my trees. When the wind came up and whipped the limbs of the tree, the bees resumed their search for a home.

Just another interesting country day! Hope you enjoyed the bee-utiful pictures *winks*

God bless,
Kathy

More lovely ACEO mini Bounty Challenge prizes!

Sonja Green of fairlylandbeauties created these love cards! Aren’t they fun?! Sonja is a mixed media artist who creates one of a kind altered art collages that are very intriguing. There is a bit of an air of mystery that surrounds many of her creations.

I love “A Soul Within” because it has that air of mystery. Who is this woman? What secret is hidden away in her soul? The multiple layers of collage elements give this ACEO a subtle texture and definitely create a pensive mood.

Check out “Blah!! School Again!” and take a good look at that cute little redhead. Who do you suppose that is? Well, that is Sonja when she was a little girl! What a fun picture! That makes this very cute collage doubly fun for me. I love the way she added the apple and tiny little pencil, and once again her choice of papers creates a mood. Poor little girl – she wants to be out in the sunshine! Not stuck at a desk inside!

Check out more of Sonja’s great creations in her etsy shop, fairylandbeauties.

Thanks for adding these to the mini Bounty Challenge Prize, Sonja! I love them!

God bless,
Kathy

In memory of my Mom for Mother's Day

My mother was a very good artist who painted primarily in oils. She also did a few watercolors and lots of pencil and charcoal sketches. Alzheimer's robbed my mother of her ability to paint and, in 2002, she passed away after having a series of strokes. I still have her palette, many of her brushes and some of her paint ~ and lots of her beautiful paintings! I wanted to share one with you =)

Happy Mother's Day!

God bless,
Kathy

And yet more treasures in the mini ACEO Bounty Challenge!

Canadian artist Pam Hardy created these lovely cards and they are an example of the diversity and beauty that characterize her artwork.

“Red Glory” is one of her lovely photographs. I love the color of this tulip. My father planted a tulip that is almost the same color – now, how did Pam know that? *winks*

“Ode to Spring” is a cute little drawing of a bright blue flower. I have this perched on my computer desk while I wait for the spring flowers to bloom. This little “Ode to Spring” is bringing spring to me early!

“Butterfly” is very intriguing because it is made in several layers. The butterfly is cut out and then paper is layered behind it. I have included a close-up so that you can see the tiny detail. Each of the lines in the wings is a different piece of paper! *whew* That’s a lot of tiny little work there, Pam! The overall look is really pretty – I love the depth and the colors in this one.

The balloon in “Float” reminds me of a birthday balloon and since I am having a ‘significant’ birthday this year, I am going to do something special with this little ACEO. I haven’t decided what, yet – but I know what another one of my special Bounty Booty prizes is and I think that this will go very nicely in that *winks* But you will have to wait until another day to find out about that!

Pam has just recently reopened her shop and she is having a sale – be sure to check out the great deals on her wonderful artwork!

Thanks so much for these great cards! I am so pleased to have more of your artwork in my collection =)

God bless,

Delightful new ACEOs – more of the mini ACEO Bounty Challenge Booty!

Miriam Climenhaga has tagged her Etsy shop “all things colorful and bright…” and that is definitely the case with everything in her juneblue.etsy.com store. Her vibrant colors combine wonderfully with her abstract images to create a visual experience that is delightful. These lovely little treasures that she sent as part of the mini Bounty Challenge Prize are three good examples of her fun style and her creative use of color.

I love the contrasting colors in “Door” where the subtle greens and blues have a sudden splash of orange. There’s a mystery here, too – where does this door lead? What is on the other side?

“Hills and Sky” has lots of texture that creates a fun effect especially in the clouds. I like the way that Miriam uses a darker color to enhance and outline her shapes. It gives this very subtle composition a lot of movement, especially in the hills which seem to move like waves on the ocean. The use of this ACEO in a greeting card is really nice, too. What a wonderful way to share the love of creating and collecting ACEOs!

“Kiss” is fun and bright – just the perfect thing for someone you love! The combination of acrylic paint and collage gives this card some subtle texture, too. Miriam listed this as the perfect Valentine’s Day gift, and I think that she is right.

For a bright splash of color and some really fun images visit Miriams’s shop ~

A serene selection for the mini Bounty Prize

These lovely creations came all the way from Japan! I love the international aspect of the internet and that is one of the things I have really enjoyed about Etsy. I met Juana Almaguer in the ACEO Bounty Challenge forum quite a while ago. She has a very subtle and serene style that is peaceful and yet has the tension of contrast. The lovely drawing is called “Mother” and it is her interpretation of a goddess. This mixed media drawing is very pretty and subtle and I am very pleased to have it in my collection.

Juana also sent this stunning photograph. I love the colors and the interplay of the flowers and the shadows. If you visit her blog, you will see more of her lovely photographs – as well as having a peek at her life in Japan!

In her Etsy store, Juana has a lovely series of drawings which are done on the pages of an old Japanese book. These drawings have a beautiful line quality and an intriguing look with the Japanese text. Visit her store at:

Thanks so much for including these lovely pieces of your artwork in the mini Bounty prize!

More mini Bounty Booty!

I love sunflowers! With Marlene Hawkin’s print, “Double Your Pleasure” I get two sunflowers and two cute ladybugs =) I can remember playing with ladybugs when I was a child. Their bright red color fascinated me as well as the fact that they would stay on my hand for a long time before they flew away. I love the bright colors in Marlene’s card – such a cheerful, spring card!

Marlene also sent a little extra magnet. This is so cute – it says “Back to School” on it. I have been taking a couple of online classes *winks* so this little magnet is very timely – as well as cute!

Lately Marlene has been creating some lovely felted ACEOs and listing them in her etsy store, lazyhawk.etsy.com. They are really pretty – and they sell very fast! You may have to go to her sold orders to see them if you don’t hurry over to her shop!

Thanks for the lovely gifts that you provided for the mini ACEO Bounty Prize! I am so delighted to have them in my collection!

God bless,

Oh, I just love kitties!

Check out this very cute kitty with butterfly wings that Betty Stoumbos of pinkglitterfae created! Betty put a little touch of sparkle on this kitty’s crown and wings and I just love the little pink heart and the big soulful eyes. What a cute kitty and what a fun addition to my mini Bounty Booty =)

Betty is mostly a self taught artist, though she says that she has taken a few classes along the way. She likes to create whimsical art, fantasy, folk art, angels and mermaids. She says “I strive to become a better artist with each painting”. Check out her shop and you will have a VERY hard time picking your favorite! I love her whimsical style and the vibrant colors that she uses.

Visit her shop at http://pinkglitterfae.etsy.com

This delightful card was very well packaged and arrived in a cute, sparkly butterfly card. I am so happy to have it in my collection! Thanks, Betty =)

And the ACEO mini Bounty Challenge Booty continues to arrive!

The humor in these two cards from Sue Taylor has kept me laughing since I got them. She has a great sense of humor that frequently comes out in her artwork. The two cards that she sent for the April ACEO mini Bounty Challenge Prize are “Zebra Grass” and “Kisses to you”.

“Kisses to you” was done in answer to a challenge 'to depict true love, in grey scale, with an addition of one color'. Do you feel the love? I do! Sue’s control of her media is really apparent in this drawing where she used a limited color scheme.

Can you see the zebra hiding in the grass in “Zebra Grass”. Or is the zebra really grass? Or is there no zebra at all? This very fun card was made in response to a General challenge by user bellsakabin to create a ACEO with the theme "zebra grass".

Sue is a very talented artist and her colored pencil art is wonderful. Check out her shop soon because she is having a fantastic sale! Some things are only .99 and, at those prices, they will not be in her shop for long!

Click the title of this post to go to Sue's artistsuetaylor etsy shop or cut and past this link.

Thanks, Sue ~ for sharing some really great artwork with me =)

More lovely mini ACEO Bounty Booty from the April prize!

Check out these wonderful creations from Melissa Shaw of worldofmoments on Etsy! Aren’t they great!

I love “Mommy and Me” - what a cute picture of Mel and her mother! The border on this lovely photograph is really fun because it is all hand painted. Happy Mother’s Day, Mel! Just had to pass on those wishes =) This card reminds me of when my daughter was little and we had our “ladies’ day out” once a week. Too much fun!

“Snowflake” is so sparkly and pretty! Here is another treasure that reminds me of the fun that Cynthia and I had when she was little - creating paper snowflakes which appear like magic with a few snips of the scissors. These cards are treasures that I am delighted to have added to my collection!

If you haven’t visited Mel’s shop on Etsy, be sure that you do! She has some VERY special things in there. Not only does she feature her artwork, but she also features artwork by her sons. Here are two fun little ACEOs that the boys did – “Field of Flowers” by Connor and “Ocean” by Braeden. (I hope you don’t mind that I swiped your photos and showed off the boys’ great artwork, Mel!)

One of the reasons that Mel opened her shop on Etsy was to share the artwork that the boys do. Here is a little bit of what she has to say in her profile:

My name is Mel, I'm the mother of 3 wonderful children. Two of my children are on the autism spectrum, as am I (Aspergers).

My store came about out of daily painting therapy sessions with my two boys to help with sensory issues, ADHD, and imagination building. I wanted to share the beauty I saw in what they did, and share in my own works as well

This talented artist donates a portion of all of her sales to The Dockery Foundation in Olive Branch, MS. For more information about this group check this out:
http://www.dockeryfoundation.org/

The web address to Mel's shop is http://worldofmoments.etsy.com

Tomorrow – another great artist!
God bless,
Kathy

Look at my new ACEOs - Just a couple from my mini Bounty Booty! Woohoo!!!

Carole Shukle is the artist behind readingsully2 and the creator of these lovely cards! These are two of the wonderful mini Bounty Challenge cards that I have received as part of the mini Bounty Prize for April.

I love the bright sparkly details in “The Day We Celebrate”! The 4th of July has always been a special day for me because it was the day (many years ago) that my Dad proposed to my Mom. This great little ACEO makes me think of Mom and Dad.

What a perfect companion to that special little ACEO is “Key to my Heart”! The vintage images on this card are so cute and the painted background makes this a very rich ACEO.

Both of her delightful ACEOs were very well packaged and shipped in a pretty French card with the Eiffel Tower on it.

Carole is a great artist whose talents include collage, painting, digital artwork, iris folding and photography. Be sure to check out her shop at http://readingsully2.etsy.com !

Tomorrow I will share more of my delightful mini Bounty Booty!

God bless,
Kathy
