In memory of my Mom for Mother's Day

My mother was a very good artist who painted primarily in oils. She also did a few watercolors and lots of pencil and charcoal sketches. Alzheimer's robbed my mother of her ability to paint and, in 2002, she passed away after having a series of strokes. I still have her palette, many of her brushes and some of her paint ~ and lots of her beautiful paintings! I wanted to share one with you =)

Happy Mother's Day!

God bless,
Kathy

  3. This proves that painting is a God given talent. It is actually in the genes of two generations and perhaps more. What a lovely tribute.

  5. Breathtaking painting Kathy! And as the others said-TWO women with God given talent-one springing from the other...Is the location in the painting a place you have actually been? Looks like paradise! Thanks for sharing :o)

  10. Thank you all for such lovely comments =) I'm glad you liked Mom's painting - she would be so pleased to know that others enjoyed her artwork!

Daffy - Mom painted from pictures usually. Sometimes I have found the photograph that she used, but not too often. She would also paint from magazines and, well, whatever caught her fancy. Many of her paintings are scenes around Arizona.

Thanks, Pam - I do miss Mom...

Pam, Marlene, Vicki, Daffy, Leah, Carole & Tessa - tehe - both my sister and I have taken after Mom. LOL - guess I should blog about my sis, too - Mom used to sing a bit and my sis sings with her hubby sometimes... LOL - but that is a whole 'nother post!

Thanks, matts =) I appreciate the (((hugs))) (((hugs))) back to you!

Thanks David & Lorna =) I'm glad you liked it!

I have to tell you all - this is only one side of my creative parents - my father was also very artistic. I will be blogging about him on Father's Day *winks* There have been lots of other talented people in my family, too =) hmmmm - this could be a fun series of posts *winks*

  12. I was so happy to see that you posted one of your Mom's paintings! How well I recall those paintings - both in progress and finished - around the house and that wonderful back room (I STILL covet that sewing area!). Your Mom was wonderful and very special woman - she was an inspiration to me!

Thanks, Remembrances =) You are in disguise, but I think I know who you are *winks* That was a lovely sewing area - Mom hated to leave that most of all when they moved.

  14. Didn't mean to be incognito - of course you know who I am! Besides your Mom's art and her sewing area, my next favorite was your Dad's collection of ragtime music and the dog that chased airplanes!

  15. haha! Shadow =) I have never seen another dog chase airplanes - especially as ones as high as those were! LOL! Yeah, Dad loved his Dixieland =)
